RECAP: Flag Football Takes Over Pro Bowl & Super Bowl LX Week

Flag football was one of the standout themes of the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl LX week in San Francisco, highlighting the sport’s rapid growth and its rising global profile ahead of its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.


International Showcase: USA vs. Mexico

One of the marquee moments of the week was the USA men’s flag football team facing off against Mexico in a rematch exhibition game, with the U.S. pulling out a 35–34 victory in a thrilling finish. This match was part of the Super Bowl Experience events designed to spotlight elite international competition and build excitement for the sport.


NFL Flag Football Events

Throughout the week, a range of flag football activities unfolded:

  • Pro Bowl Games (Feb. 3): For the first time, the NFL’s all-star event was fully integrated into Super Bowl week, featuring a non-contact 7-on-7 flag football showdown between the NFC and AFC teams at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.   • NFL Flag International Championship: Youth teams from around the world competed in an international U13 tournament at Moscone Center, demonstrating flag football’s expanding global participation. Japan taking the win over panama's talented team
  • NFL Flag Girls High School Showcase: Thirty-two top senior high school flag football athletes were selected to compete in a spotlight game presented by Visa. This event was aired live as part of the broader Pro Bowl Games coverage, highlighting the growth of girls’ flag football in schools. The AFC takes the win with a dominate performance from QB Ariana Akey
  • Toyota Glow Up Classic: spotlighting top Bay Area female high school athletes. Played under UV lights with glowing gear, the game features mentorship from Team Toyota NFL players like Brock Purdy, with Eli Manning and Kylie Kelce serving as guest referees.

Celebrity & Fan Events

Beyond the official competitions, flag football culture featured in other Super Bowl week attractions:

  • Celebrity Flag Football Game: A celebrity exhibition match was held, adding fun to the festivities and featuring personalities from sports and entertainment.
  • NFL FLAG Clinics: As part of the overall Super Bowl Experience, fans and youth players had the opportunity to participate in NFL FLAG clinics, helping grow grassroots interest in the sport.
