The world's top flag football teams will descend on Germany in 2026, as Dusseldorf has been officially selected to host the IFAF Flag Football World Championships, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) confirmed on July 31.
Scheduled for August 13-16, the event will take place at Dusseldorf's brand-new, purpose-built flag football complex, which opened earlier this year.
A Game-Changing Venue for a Game-Changing Event
The championships will be held at Dusseldorf's dedicated flag football facility, a state-of-the-art venue unveiled earlier this year. The city, known for its strong ties to American football and vibrant sports culture, is already generating buzz among athletes, fans, and organizers alike.
Global Teams, Olympic Dreams
The 2026 Championships will feature 16 of the world's best men's and women's national teams, all earning their spots through fierce continental qualifiers in 2025.
But this event is about more than just winning gold. For many athletes and nations, Dusseldorf 2026 represents the first major stop on the road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles - where flag football will make its historic Olympic debut.
