Nigeria's men's and women's teams claimed victory at the first-ever African Flag Football Championship, held June 21 in Cairo, Egypt. The tournament, organized by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), featured 11 teams from eight countries.
The Nigerian men edged Egypt 13-12 in a close final, while the women's team defeated Morocco 26-12, led by two second-half touchdowns from QB Anuoluwapo Bello. Tunisia and Egypt took third place in the men's and women's divisions, respectively.
Both Nigerian teams earned automatic qualification for the 2026 IFAF World Championships.
IFAF President Pierre Trochet praised the talent on display and called the event a springboard for the sport's growth in Africa, especially ahead of flag football's Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028.
